Steel-wood bridge inspection and rating
DESCRIPTION
Completed detailed inspections and conducted load-bearing capacity assessments for 69 steel-wood bridges located across various regions of the Public Domain in Québec.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
The project involved significant logistical challenges, primarily due to long travel distances between remote structures, often accessed via unpaved forest roads. With no existing plans or prior inspection reports available, the team had to be fully equipped and adaptable to various site conditions, including the use of rope access for a portion of the structures. Operating in a remote environment required careful planning, strict safety protocols, and clear team communication to prevent incidents and ensure the successful completion of the inspections.
Effective planning of travel routes and necessary equipment was essential to the success of the project. Given the remote nature of the work, any missing, poorly calibrated, or non-functional equipment could have disrupted entire inspection campaigns. Field inspection methods and accurate documentation helped avoid return trips to repeat measurements. Familiarity with tools and procedures also allowed the team to plan effectively, even without knowing the exact nature or condition of the structures in advance.
