Railway track design and construction supervision

DESCRIPTION

To support the expansion of an industrial facility, new rail tracks were required to accommodate the increased supply of raw materials. The mandate included the development of track alignments from the existing rail line to the new building. Our firm was responsible for cost estimating, procurement support, detailed engineering, construction supervision, and other related duties

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

The design development required close coordination with stakeholders, including the railway partner, to determine the final alignment. As with similar mandates, the new track needed to extend from an existing alignment and pass through existing infrastructure to access the facility. Effective communication was essential to address design constraints and manage operational challenges during construction.

Our team was tasked with identifying a feasible track alignment under several limiting factors. The existing track entered the site through a grade crossing and a curve—both undesirable features in modern track design. Additional constraints included surrounding infrastructure such as pipe racks and storage reservoirs, which had to be preserved and avoided during planning.

During project development, significant attention was given to construction phasing. Planning efforts focused on minimizing disruption to ongoing operations and ensuring all work could be carried out safely and efficiently, with no adverse impact on the facility’s users.
