Railway bridge inspection
DESCRIPTION
RSRB was mandated to inspect two railway bridges. One currently has been converted to a bus rapid transit corridor. The mandate involves the detailed as well as the annual inspections
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
The project involves a railway bridge that has been converted for public transit use. The unique challenges presented by this retrofit required a particular attention to detail for the decking.
RSRB faced a tight timeline to complete bridge inspections before the end of 2024. Despite the short delay between the call for tenders and contract award, the team successfully delivered the work by coordinating with multiple stakeholders. This included managing multiple road closures, flag persons mobilization, and coordinating inspections around ongoing municipal infrastructure work.
RSRB had to introduce a safer and more efficient inspection method by replacing full rope access with an elevating platform for the upper structure. This approach reduced risks, improved working conditions, saved inspection time, and allowed the team to meet inspection deadlines while enhancing overall inspection quality.
